Özet:

The aim of this study; To investigate the level of secondary traumatic stress and assumptions about the world of healthcare workers involved in the COVID-19 pandemic. The research was carried out with 352 people in a public institution providing 3rd level health services in Istanbul. Physicians, nurses, pharmacists, cleaning staff and clinical support staff participated in the study. As the secondary traumatic stress level of the participants increased, their assumptions about the world were negatively affected. As the professional experience of healthcare professionals increased, their secondary traumatic stress levels decreased, and their assumptions about the world were positively affected. 62 The assumptions of the cleaning personnel about the world were found to be more positive than the assistant physician, general practitioner and nurse. The mean age of the participants was 31.1 ± 8.1. As age increases, assumptions about the world become more positive and secondary traumatic stress levels decrease. 52% of the participants are female and 42% are male. Women's secondary trauma levels are higher than men, and their assumptions about the world are more negative (p:0.017). In the study, it was determined that ITSO scores of those with doctoral education were lower than those with associate degree graduates (p˂0.05). People with low education level have more positive assumptions than participants with high education level (p˂0.05). There was no significant relationship between marital status and ITSO (p˃0.05). The assumptions about the world of the married participants were found to be more positive than the singles (p=0.003). Secondary traumatic stress levels of people who have children were found to be lower and their assumptions about the world were more positive (p<0.05). As the income level of the participants increased, the scores they got from the ITSO decreased (r:-0.14. p:0.015). Health workers living with their families have more positive assumptions about the world (p=0.002). Secondary traumatic stress levels of employees providing healthcare services to COVID-19 patients were found to be higher (p=0.045). The level of secondary traumatic stress was found to be higher in healthcare workers who were assigned to another unit or outside the institution during the pandemic (p=0.047). 91.5% of the participants stated that they felt the need for psychological support during the pandemic, but 6.8% stated that they could receive psychological support.
