Özet

A pronominal adverb is a compound word consisting of a pronominal adverb such as da, hier, wo and a preposition. When pronominal adverbs refer to preceding and following linguistic devices and abstract facts, the antecedents can simply be a noun and a prepositional phrase or, more complexly, a sentence. Turkish-speaking learners often make mistakes when using a pronominal adverb in a text, or they tend not to use this structure at all. For these reasons, it is important to show how these grammatical structures are treated in teaching materials, because they are used as reference sources in teaching German as a foreign language. The way these structures are explained in these books also plays an important role in the context of GFL teaching in Turkey and in learners' correct learning of pronominal adverbs. The main aim of this study is to discuss which pronominal adverbs and which functions of pronominal adverbs should play a role in teaching. The present empirical study benefits from a case study design. A corpus was created in which the grammar books and course books were selected according to specific criteria in order to systematically analyze the treatment of pronominal adverbs. In this created corpus, document analysis was used as a research method for analysis and evaluation. The analysis of the data revealed that these structures are not uniform either in word denotation, form or function.
