Impacts of Military Spending on Economic Growth, Gerardo Reyes RUIZ, Editör, IGI Global yayınevi, Pennsylvania, ss.179-209, 2025
This study explores the relationship between military expenditure and economic growth in 10 MENA countries using a country- specific time- series approach. Employing advanced empirical techniques-namely the Bootstrap Fourier- Kruse Unit Root Test and Bootstrap Fourier- Shin cointegration analysis-it accounts for structural breaks and data nonlinearity. The findings reveal a heterogeneous and context- dependent relationship: while countries such as Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Morocco, and Oman exhibit a positive association between military expenditure and growth, others like Saudi Arabia and Tunisia show limited or no significant impact. These results challenge assumptions of panel- based analyses and underscore the importance of methodological rigor and contextual nuance. The study concludes military expenditure can act as either a catalyst or a constraint for growth, depending on national conditions. Policy recommendations stress defense efficiency, fiscal balance, diversification, and regional stability for sustainable development in MENA.
