Ageing Populations and Changing Labour Markets: Social and Economic Impacts of the Demographic Time Bomb, Taylor & Francis Ltd, ss.29-45, 2016
This chapter presents a general framework of the ageing population in Turkey and the place of the elderly in working life. It was observed that the world population is ageing in parallel with economic, technological and social transformations occurring elsewhere. The studies conducted reveal that ageing affects social and economic life in various ways. Recent social changes in Turkey and the rest of the world are likely to result in a future ageing population that will be better educated and will have higher expectations and demand better quality and more comprehensive social security rights especially with regard to health services. As stated by Bahaudin and et al, Turkey has the youngest population in the Middle East and Europe. Unfortunately, governments do not have long-term strategies to integrate this young population into economic life. However, ageing is not yet considered a pressing problem in Turkey, a country experiencing a demographic transition period, and academic studies on the issue are quite limited.
