Özet

A lot of small countries in the world consist of islands and some restrictions that they face result from the fact that they are small-scaled countries. These countries are forced to import intensively due to the limited number of natural resources. Trade on tourism increases the need for import, furthermore, this trade helps people living on the islands to pay their import debts and ensures a better living standards. Although there are a lot of unfavourable problems that tourism brings together, it is a great success as much as tourism that islands turn towards another production that will enable the flow of foreign exchange. The countries can not develop an economy that is based on production except tourism since they are small-scaled countries, the islands can not improve their economies, they can not use modern technology, and they are faced with problems resulting from transportation. On the other hand, most of the islands with their natural beauties and attractive climatic conditions seem to be appropriate for creating a very extensive tourism industry. The improvement of tourism on the islands depends on these natural beauties and their protectinon. In this context, it is obvious that a sustainable tourism is needed. The matter of a sustainable tourism reveals when trade on tourism begins to create undesirable effects on the physical environment and the culture of the local public. In this paper the positive and negative effects of tourism in small islands and how to sustain the ecological and social life are analysed.
