Bu araştırmada, Carlo Collodi’nin Pinokyo adlı çocuk romanında yer alan değerleri ve sıklıklarını belirlemek ve bu değerleri Millî Eğitim Bakanlığı (MEB) öğretim programlarındaki kök değerler ile UNESCO’nun Yaşayan Değerler Eğitim Programı (YDEP) kapsamındaki evrensel değerler doğrultusunda karşılaştırmak amaçlanmıştır. Bu doğrultuda, araştırmanın niteliğine uygun olarak nitel araştırma yaklaşımı benimsenmiştir. Araştırma verilerinin toplanmasında nitel araştırma tekniklerinden doküman incelemesi kullanılmıştır. Veriler tümdengelimsel ve tümevarımsal analiz yaklaşımlarıyla analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma bulgularına göre “Pinokyo” romanında merhamet, sevgi, özdenetim, mutluluk, çalışkanlık, yardımseverlik, dürüstlük, sabır ve sorumluluk gibi yirmi sekiz farklı değerin yer aldığı belirlenmiştir. Romanın MEB öğretim programlarında (2018-2023) yer alan on kök değerden dokuzunu desteklediği, ancak vatanseverlik değerine yer vermediği tespit edilmiştir. UNESCO YDEP kapsamında tanımlanan on iki değerin tamamının ise romanda farklı düzeylerde işlendiği görülmüştür. Araştırma sonucunda Pinokyo romanı kullanılarak, ilköğretim kademesinde yerel (kök) ve evrensel değerlerin kazandırılmasına yönelik değer eğitimi etkinliklerinin yapılabileceği, ilköğretim çağındaki çocuklara “sevgi” değerinin kazandırılmasında Pinokyo kitabının etkisini belirlemek üzere deneme modelleri ile araştırmalar desenlenebileceğine ilişkin çeşitli öneriler sunulmuştur.
This study aims to identify the values and their frequencies in Carlo Collodi's children's novel Pinocchio and to compare these values with the core values in the Ministry of National Education (MEB) teaching programmes and the universal values within the scope of UNESCO's Living Values Education Programme (LVEP). Accordingly, a qualitative research approach was adopted in line with the nature of the study. Document analysis, one of the qualitative research techniques, was used to collect research data. The data were analysed using deductive and inductive analysis approaches. According to the research findings, it was determined that twenty-eight different values, such as compassion, love, self-control, happiness, diligence, helpfulness, honesty, patience, and responsibility, were present in the novel Pinocchio. It was found that the novel supports nine of the ten core values included in the MEB teaching programmes (2018-2023), but does not include the value of patriotism. It was observed that all twelve values defined within the scope of UNESCO YDEP are addressed at different levels in the novel. As a result of the research, various suggestions were made regarding the use of the Pinocchio novel to conduct value education activities aimed at instilling local (core) and universal values at the primary education level, and the design of experimental models to determine the impact of the Pinocchio book on instilling the value of "love" in primary school children.
