Özet
The aim of this study is to compare the air quality parameters in the five provinces most affected by the Kahramanmaraş earthquake on February 6, 2023, with the World Health Organization (WHO) limit values and the values from the same months in 2022 during the first three months following the earthquake. In this descriptive study, air quality data from 18 monitoring stations located in the five provinces most impacted by the earthquake (Kahramanmaraş, Hatay, Gaziantep, Adıyaman, and Malatya) were obtained from the website of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change (ÇŞİDB) for February, March, and April of both 2022 and 2023. The values of particulate matter 10 (PM10), PM2.5, SO2, NO, NO2, NOx, CO, and O3 were compared between the same months of the two years and with the WHO daily limit values. Significant and substantial changes were detected in the air quality parameters of the settlements affected by the earthquake after February 6. It was observed that the levels of air pollutants and particulate matter had increased in many stations compared to the previous year. At some stations where an increase was observed, the WHO limits were also exceeded.
