Özet

Objective This study aimed to examine deaths in Türkiye between 2009 and 2024 by year, sex, and age group. Study design Descriptive study. Methods Mortality statistics for this period, obtained from the Turkish Statistical Institute, were analyzed using Microsoft Excel and Joinpoint version 5.3.0, with significance set at p ' 0.05. Results Age-standardized mortality rates declined from 2009 to 2018, increased between 2018 and 2021, peaking in 2021, and then declined again through 2024. The leading causes of death were circulatory system diseases (35.8%), neoplasms (17.5%), and respiratory system diseases (11.6%), with COVID-19 added as a diagnostic category in 2020. COVID-19 mortality peaked at 67.3 per 1,00,000 in 2021 before declining. Infant mortality decreased significantly from 2009 to 2018 (APC: 3.98%; p = 0.004), plateauing thereafter (APC: 0.73%; p ' 0.05). Conclusions These findings provide a comprehensive understanding of mortality patterns across age and sex groups, elucidate the contribution of specific causes of death, and offer critical evidence for guiding public health policy, prioritizing interventions, and optimizing healthcare resource allocation to address the most urgent population health challenges effectively.
