In this article, Nekita and Malenko are making a psychoanalytic study of the Russian mentality basing themselves both on the religious dilemma between paganism and Christianity and the political one between the pluralist Novgorod Republic (old) and the Russian Empire (new). According to them, what lies at the basis of Russian mentality are the matriarchal tendencies and the balance between the archetypal symbols of “Mother” and “Father”. However, with the transformation of Old Russia into the Russian Empire, this epistemological principle has been deprived of its content, preserving only its appearance and society has surrendered to patriarchal tendencies
