Özet
The aim of this study was to determine the incidence of port-related thrombosis in oncological patients and to compare the demographic and clinical characteristics of patients with and without thrombosis. In this retrospective observational study, 163 adult patients with histopathologically confirmed malignancy who underwent central venous port catheter implantation via the right internal jugular vein between January 2023 and November 2025 were evaluated. One patient with sickle cell anemia was excluded to maintain cohort homogeneity. Patients were divided into two groups: those with thrombosis (n=11) and those without (n=152). Comparative statistical analyses were performed to identify potential risk factors. Port-related thrombosis was detected in 11 of the 163 patients (6.7%). Comparative analysis revealed no statistically significant differences between the thrombosis and non-thrombosis groups in terms of age (p=0.971), gender (p=0.821), or metastasis status (p=0.564). However, gastrointestinal malignancies (gastric and colon) were more prevalent in the thrombosis group (81.8%) compared to the non-thrombosis group (57.2%). Port removal was required in 63.6% of the thrombosis cases. Although port-related thrombosis has a low incidence, it remains a clinically significant complication. While age and gender were not identified as independent predictors in this cohort, the high prevalence of gastrointestinal malignancies in the thrombosis group suggests a need for closer monitoring in this specific patient population.
