Brachytherapy is a form of internal radiation therapy used to
treat cancer. It is a kind of locally invasive radiotherapy technic applied to
kill malign cells which make up the cancer. It treats cancer by placing
radioactive sources directly into or next to the area requiring treatment.
Brachytherapy may be a successful treatment for several types of cancer
included in cervix, endometrium and skin cancers, because clinicians may be
deliver a higher doses with it with minimal impact on surrounding healthy tissues in a
shorter time than is possible with external beam radiation treatment. High dose
rate (HDR) brachytherapy is relatively new brachytherapy method which uses a
higher strength radioactive source contained within an afterloader device. In
our study, the high dose rate brachytherapy will be performed using a computed
tomographic three dimentional planning to the patients diagnosed with cervix,
endometrium or skin cancer. Twenty five patients suitable for the HDR
brachytherapy will be entered in this study. The local disease control and toxicity
results will be evaluated in these 25 patients treated with HDR conformal
brachytherapy and the project will be completed in 36 months.
